Prayer and relaxation on North Wales retreat

Fr Simon Bishop SJ will be leading a retreat-cum-holiday for young adults in July, with Sister MaryAnne Francalanza fcJ. Fr Bishop, who was Chaplain at the University of Oxford and is now Director of Spirituality for the Jesuits in Britain, says it will be a wonderful opportunity for young adults (18-30) who wish to take stock of their lives to enjoy a time of rest, while exploring ways of praying and of finding God more deeply in their lives. Sr MaryAnne was born in Malta and gained an MSc in Maths before deciding to become a Faithful Companion of Jesus, through which she is able to share Ignatian spirituality.

“The idea is a retreat combined with a holiday,” says Fr Bishop, “with some input from Sr MaryAnne and myself, and time for quiet prayer and reflection in the morning. The afternoons will be free for walking, swimming, sleeping, relaxing, socialising or reading, followed by Mass and supper - bring your best recipes!  It will offer participants time to explore in a prayerful way what has been happening in their lives during the past year as well as a day of silence with the chance to meet with a Spiritual Director, for those who wish.

The retreat/holiday will take place at the Jesuit House, Barmouth, North Wales between Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 July 2014.

“We very much hope that people will use this opportunity to take stock of the past year, re-discover the Lord more deeply, and prepare, with the Lord and with friends, for the year ahead,” says Fr Bishop.

The suggested donation for the week is £10 - £15 per night and further information and booking details are available from Fr Simon Bishop SJ (spirituality@gbsj.org) or Sr MaryAnne Francalanza FCJ (maryannefcj@gmail.com).
