Gerald O'Mahony SJ
Gerald O’Mahoney was born in Wigan Lancashire in 1934. He attended Mount St Mary’s School in Spinkhill and joined the Jesuits at the age of 18. During his formation he taught Maths and Classics, first at St John’s Beaumont and then at Beaumont College in Windsor. He was ordained in Dublin in 1964, where he was studying at Milltown Park.
From 1966 he was based mainly at Loyola Hall where he was a member of the team giving the Spiritual Exercises. During this time he also served ten years as an adviser of teachers of religion for the Archdiocese of Liverpool, spent a few months as Novice Master at the Novitiate in Harborne Birmingham, and assisted at the Glasgow University Catholic Chaplaincy. He has written over 20 books to help people to come closer to God.
Gerry now lives in our retirement community in Preston where he continues to write and give the spiritual exercises, as well as assisting in St Wilfrid’s parish.
