Heythrop College hosts Any Questions? in its 400th anniversary year

Heythrop College, University of London, launched its 400th anniversary year with a live broadcast on BBC Radio 4. The college that was founded by the Jesuits in Belgium in 1614 welcomed the topical radio debate Any Questions?, chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby. It was the first time the programme had been broadcast from Heythrop and was the first in its 2014 output.

Faith Matters: Vatican II and the Joy of the Gospel

The Lent 2014 season of Faith Matters has been announced by the Mount Street Jesuit Centre and the Archdiocese of Westminster. Over four Thursday evenings in March and April, speakers will consider what the Church is for, 50 years after the Second Vatican Council and in the light of Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (the Joy of the Gospel).

The French philosopher, palaeontologist and geologist, Fr Pierre Teilhard de Chardin SJ is the focus for the Society of Jesus this January, as he features in the commemorative calendar produced by the Jesuits in Britain. The calendar was this week launched in an online version, in several languages and with more detailed essays about each of the 12 featured Jesuits than could be offered in the printed version.

Jesuits prepare to hand Wimbledon parish over to archdiocese

The formal handover of Sacred Heart parish in Wimbledon, south west London from the Society of Jesus to the Archdiocese of Southwark and the Induction of the new parish priest, Monsignor Nick Hudson, will take place at 7.30pm this Friday 10 January 2014. Archbishop Peter Smith and Fr Dermot Preston SJ, the Jesuit Provincial of the British Province, will concelebrate Mass along with the outgoing parish priest, Fr Keith McMillan SJ, and Mgr Hudson.

Heythrop College celebrates its first Dame

An alumna of Heythrop College, University of London, became the college's first Dame in the Queen's New Year Honours. Rachel de Souza achieved a BA in Philosophy and Theology at Heythrop between 1986 and 1989, and was recognised in the New Year Honours for her services to education.
