To mark the occasion of the anniversary of the death of Bl John Sullivan, Farm Street Church welcomed Fr Conor Harper SJ, Vice-Postulator for the Cause of John Sullivan SJ, and members of the Lloyd family, to preach and give a talk.

Bl John Sullivan was beatified on 13th May last year at Gardiner St Church in Dublin.  The ceremony was remarkable because it was the first beatification ceremony ever to take place in Ireland, and because the solemn petition for beatification was presented by both the Roman Catholic Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and the Church of Ireland Archbishop Michael Jackson.

Bl John was received into the Church in the house chapel at Farm Street by Fr John Gavan SJ in December 1896, while he was a young lawyer at Lincoln’s Inn. He was known for his piety and love for the weakest in society.

Fr Dominic Robinson SJ, who hosted the visit, commented “the family of Bl John Sullivan were very moved on visiting the chapel where he was received and spent some of his formative years.  They spoke of the ongoing inspiration Fr John has for them both in their Christian lives and as a witness to our quest for Christian unity”.

Fr Robinson is travelling to Dublin next week to be present at a Mass to mark the anniversary which will be celebrated at Gardiner Street in the presence of both Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and Archbishop Michael Jackson.
