Corpus Christi
18 St James Square
United Kingdom

The presence of the Jesuits in Boscombe, Dorset, can be traced back to the 1880s and the formation of the Diocese of Portsmouth. Corpus Christi Church itself was opened in 1896, at a time Boscombe was starting to grow with the popularity of the English seaside holiday. By the 1930s, the Catholic population had expanded to such an extent that it was necessary to increase the church’s capacity from 400 to 800. At this time, the 108 feet high tower was also added, from which the Isle of Wight is visible. Today, Corpus Christi has a large number of parish groups and organisations, prayer groups, music groups and choirs. There are two Catholic primary schools in the Boscombe area: St Thomas Garnet's and Corpus Christi, which is under the Trusteeship of the Diocese of Portsmouth. Boscombe is also home to the Corpus Christi Jesuit Community of retired priests and brothers.
