Manresa House (novitiate)
When a man applies to enter the Society of Jesus, he spends the first two years of his formation as a novice, based in the novitiate. Manresa House in Harborne, Birmingham, is the home of the novitiate for the Provinces of Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands and North Belgium. Over this period, novices are given extended opportunities for daily prayer, community celebrations of the sacraments and the making of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius over a month's retreat. Men also reflect on experiences of apostolic work, share their faith with others and get involved in spirituality work in the West Midlands area.
