Nine Minute Novena | Day 5
As we approach the Feast of St Ignatius of Loyola on 31st July, please join us in praying a novena over these next 9 days from each of our Jesuit parishes in England and Scotland.
Today's novena comes from St Francis Xavier Church in Liverpool, affectionately known by the congregation as 'SFX'. Fr Denis Blackledge SJ (pictured giving communion in his visor) describes some of the work:
''Fr General, Arturo Sosa in Rome, has asked Jesuits worldwide to concentrate on four areas and that's what we've been doing slowly but surely and the Covid-19 era has put some egde on that. The first thing of course is deepening peoples' spirituality - the relationship with the good Lord, the relationship with other people, the relationship with God, and I love breaking the Word because it's so important. The breaking of the Word, the homily, is just as important as breaking the bread and I love playing with words and being creative with words.''
SFX also walks with the homeless by providing food and other essential supplies to local charities. To find out more about SFX, click on the link below.
A novena is an ancient devotion consisting of 9 days of prayer - often in preparation for a feast day or for a specific intention. Click on the link below to watch the full novena.
