Heythrop Library is offering Professor CSP Hunter scholarships in 2025

January 28, 2025

This is the third year in which Professor CSP Hunter generously supports the Heythrop Library through offering free memberships to those who would normally have to pay for it.

The Jesuits in Britain have been the owner of the Heythrop Library since 1614, and fund the Library’s work, including growing the collection by over 1,500 books per year (of which 600-800 are purchased).

The Professor CSP Hunter scholarships in 2025 offer free membership (usually £100) for 12 months, which gives full access to the collection of over 200,000 books and journals. For 2025, only those who hold a PhD in either theology or philosophy are eligible. Applications are now open!

As the collection is 99.9% in print, applicants need to live within easy-travelling distance to the library which is located in Mayfair in central London.

Clemens Gresser, Heythrop Librarian, explained:

"Last year we started reaching more academics and I hope that in 2025 we can award all 7 scholarships. It is clear from the feedback we have had that these scholarships have made a positive impact. Our collection contains books and journals which are unique in the UK. Also, for those looking specifically to study theology within the Catholic tradition, we aim to offer the best print collection in the country."
