The languages group at At Aloysius is called an ESOL group (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and as many as 75 people attend the group on weekday mornings to learn English.
Staffed only by volunteers, the classes provide a high level of instruction in the four language skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing. This will prepare the refugees and asylum seekers for life in the UK and hopefully a course at one of the Glasgow colleges - Clyde, City or Kelvin. Indeed, the hope is that they will study for SQA qualifications in English and from there go on to further or higher education.
