Holy Name Church in Manchester hosts St Beuno’s celebration Mass

July 15, 2024

The occasion saw Fr. Dushan Croos SJ deliver an inspiring homily, with a lively reception honouring those who make St Beuno’s mission possible.

Holy God we praise thy name!

So sounded the magnificent organ at Holy Name Church at the beginning of the St Beuno’s celebration Mass on Saturday, 13th July.

Dozens of friends and benefactors of St Beuno’s gathered to relive their experiences of prayer and fellowship at the retreat house and spirituality centre.

Fr Dushan Croos SJ noted that it was fitting to gather at Holy Name Church as the architect Joseph Hansom designed both Holy Name Church and St Beuno’s, whose chapel is also dedicated to the Holy Name.

In his homily, Fr Dushan reflected on Isaiah’s intense experience of prayer that led him into the presence of God, an experience of heaven. He remarked that for many of us it is not easy to be still enough to open ourselves to the presence of God. Today, the team at St Beuno’s help those on retreat to stay in a similar moment of awe, guiding them to listen to God’s message and discern their path.

After Mass, together with St Beuno’s director Ruth Holgate, a reception gave the chance to share retreat experiences, view some historic pictures of St Beuno’s from the Jesuit archives and thank those whose generous donations and legacies enable St Beuno’s ministry to be available to those who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to afford to visit.

St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre is in North Wales and has a full and thriving programme of retreats and courses year-round, ranging from weekends to 30-day retreats. Find out more at www.beunos.com.
