This new publication, which will be regularly available on our website, shares news about our ongoing efforts to achieve a sustainable future. Our goal is to play a part in moving towards Net Zero emissions by 2050 and halving emissions by 2030.
The Integral Ecology Quarterly Update will provide insights into the key actions we are taking each quarter, such as divesting from fossil fuels, supporting workers’ rights, and holding companies accountable for ethical practices. In this inaugural issue, we share how we recently signed three shareholder resolutions with UK-based companies to promote Real Living Wage Accreditation.
Br Stephen Power SJ, Socius for the Jesuits in Britain, commented on the update:
"Since our carbon audit of 2022, our Decarbonisation Committee holds regular forums to share progress, updates, information and news of what is going on around the British Province of Jesuits. Our new quarterly update will share key information from those sessions with you, our supporters."
Integral Ecology understands our world as fundamentally interconnected, inviting us to be attentive to voices that are usually drowned out. This includes “the cry of the poor”- those located far from us whose lives are nevertheless affected by environmental & social harms we have generated - and “the cry of the earth”, as all living creatures’ groan(s) under the weight of these same impacts. These ideas were put inspirationally in a new and succinct way in Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, published in 2015.
The Laudato Si’ Research Institute at Campion Hall, University of Oxford, is leading on some of the intellectual work around the concept of Integral Ecology. You can find out more about that here.
We are also addressing these ideas into the public sphere. For example, we recently sent delegates to COP29, the UN climate conference in Azerbaijan, to support urgent measures to tackle the climate crisis. You can read an article about that here.
