Jesuit Refugee Service UK is looking for their next Director

November 13, 2024

An exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to guide JRS UK in supporting refugees and advocating for change.

The Jesuit Refugee Service UK (JRS UK) is seeking to appoint a new Director to lead the organisation as it continues its important work with refugees and forced migrants in the UK.

Since 1985, JRS has been a dedicated companion of refugees and forced migrants in the UK, offering support and advocating for their cause. Based in the Hurtado Jesuit Centre in Wapping, East London, JRS UK works in wider collaboration with JRS offices around the world, other Jesuit projects in the UK, and many others in the Church-centred and broader refugee sector.

After nine years of successfully growing and developing JRS UK, Director Sarah Teather is stepping down to pursue new projects. Under Sarah’s leadership, JRS UK has been on a transformational journey to mature as an organisation. Today, it delivers a wide range of services including providing advice, support and hardship grants, outreach services, and legal advice.

The new Director will, in collaboration with the Management Board, staff and stakeholders, build on developments of recent years and develop JRS UK’s strategic vision in response to changes in the external refugee and asylum-seeker environment and be capable of reaching out beyond the current polarised debate to build mutual understanding.

JRS UK is looking for an expert leader and manager with knowledge and experience of the refugee sector. The ideal candidate will be participative in style, approachable, and committed to the JRS UK mission of walking alongside refugees. This role may suit someone already operating in a CEO position or similar, or someone looking to transition into their first executive director role, bringing transferable leadership experience.

Rooted in Church teaching, JRS UK welcomes people of all faiths. It employs 29 full-time and part-time staff and have around 100 volunteers, from a wide variety of backgrounds, nationalities, and generations; people of all faiths and none; including refugees, young graduates, and vowed members of religious congregations.

The salary for this role is £ £80,000 - £85,000 per annum, depending on experience. The application deadline is Friday, 6th December 2024. To learn more about the role, please download the full candidate brief below.
