At 8:50 am, we will hold a live screening of the funeral in the Cana Lounge at the London Jesuit Centre, next door to Farm Street Church (114 Mount Street, Mayfair). All who wish to watch the funeral in the company of others are warmly welcome.
Later in the day, we will gather at Farm Street Church for a Requiem Mass at 12:30 pm, led by Fr Michael Barnes SJ. This will take the place of the usual 10:00 am Mass and offers a moment for our community to give thanks for the life, ministry, and witness of Pope Francis.
Both gatherings are open to all. We encourage anyone who wishes to share in these moments of remembrance and prayer to attend.
As the first Jesuit pope, Pope Francis brought a distinctively Ignatian spirit to the papacy. Grounded in the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius, his leadership was marked by discernment, humility, care for the marginalised, and a vision of the Church rooted in closeness, compassion, and dialogue.
For those wishing to reflect more deeply on his legacy, Thinking Faith (our online journal) offers a number of thoughtful resources:
‘Between task and gift’: Dialogue and the legacy of Pope Francis explores how Pope Francis understood dialogue not as a strategy, but as a sacred responsibility, reflecting core Jesuit values of listening and mutual trust.
Francis: the discerning pope highlights how his attentiveness to the Holy Spirit, openness to complexity, and courage to act shaped every dimension of his leadership.
Who was Pope Francis to you? invites personal and collective reflection on how Pope Francis touched the lives of individuals and communities across the world.
Let us continue to hold Pope Francis in our prayers, giving thanks for his witness to the Gospel and entrusting him to the loving mercy of God.
